The Kansas City Missouri Municipal Court is a division of the 16th Judicial Circuit and is the largest Municipal Court in the State of Missouri. It is located at 1101 Locust St., Kansas City, Mo., 64106. Kansas City, Missouri Municipal Court is located 1 block northeast of the Jackson County Courthouse in downtown Kansas City, Missouri. The Court employs several full-time Judges, an experienced and seasoned staff of Prosecutors, and almost 100 employees. There are nine courtrooms which are listed alphabetically ( A Court, B Court, etc.).

Kansas City Municipal Court handles Driving Under the Influence of Alcohol and/or Drugs (DUI), Possession of Marijuana and Possession of Paraphernalia cases, DUI Checkpoint cases, Disturbing the Peace, Assault, Solicitation and Patronizing of Prostitution, Careless and Imprudent Driving charges , Speeding Tickets and other City Code Violations. There is no right to a Jury Trial in Kansas City Municipal Court, any appeals are made de novo to Jackson County Circuit Court. The Court is open from 8:00a.m. to 5:00p.m. , Monday through Friday.

Can I Still Drive After a DUI Arrest in Kansas City, Missouri?

Your first court date (arraignment) may be a month or two from the date you are arrested and receive the criminal complaint or ticket. However the timer starts running immediately on the right to contest the potential suspension of your Missouri Driving Privileges.

In Missouri you have fifteen days from the date of an alleged chemical test failure (.08 or above) to request a Drivers License Hearing. If the Officer marked you down as a Refusal, a Petition for Review must be filed in Circuit Court within 30 days. The Arresting Officer should have served you with a 15-Day Temporary Driver Permit (Missouri DOR Form 2385). The request must be made within fifteen days of service of this form if a test failure ( B.A.C. of .08 or greater ) was recorded; a Petition for Review must be filed within 30 days if law enforcement says you refused to cooperate and submit a sample.

How to Request a Drivers License Hearing in Kansas City

If you are stopped for DUI in Kansas City Missouri and consent to a breath test and register a .08 or above the Missouri Department of Revenue can suspend your Missouri Driving Privileges for 30 days on a first occurrence. This may not immediately affect your out-of-state Driver License. If it is alleged that you refused the test, that period increases to a potential one-year period of suspension of your Driving Privileges in the State of Missouri. You have 15 days to request a Drivers License Hearing with the Missouri Department of Revenue if it is alleged you tested at .08 or above.

If the Officer certified that you refused to submit to testing (Refusal), a Petition for Review must be filed in the Circuit Court of the County of jurisdiction within thirty (30) days. While an administrative drivers license suspension may not immediately affect your Drivers License in your home state, a criminal conviction will eventually follow you home to your local DMV per the Interstate Driver License Compact if you plead guilty or are found guilty in Court. Kansas City is the largest city in Missouri and the fifth largest municipality in the Midwest. Most of the City limits are within Jackson County, but some parts extend into Cass, Clay, and Platte Counties. Kansas City is home to several popular entertainment districts, including the Country Club Plaza, the Crossroads District , Westport, Kansas City Power and Light District and adjacent Sprint Center, and the River Market District.

Kansas City and Jackson County recently lost a powerful tool heavily utilized in KC to enforce DUI laws and promote DUI awareness. DUI Sobriety checkpoints are in the process of being canceled or severely cut back in Kansas City due to Missouri legislation that has effectively canceled State funding of DUI checkpoints in Missouri. Future DUI enforcement in Kansas City will rely more heavily on DUI Saturation Patrols or 'Wolfpacks'.
