Missouri Christmas DWI Arrests Double

The Missouri Highway Patrol is reporting that DWI arrests increased to 130 over the Christmas Holiday Weekend which ran from Friday, December 21st through Tuesday, December 25th. In 2011 only 56 DWI arrests were made by Missouri Highway Patrol, which is less than half of this year's total.

Christmas fell on a Tuesday this year, which made the weekend period four days, instead of last year's three days, when Christmas was on a Monday. This could be one factor in the dramatic increase in DWI arrests; another could be the increased effort by Missouri Highway Patrol and Local Law Enforcement to target DWI in Missouri and DUI on the Kansas side.

Coming up is New Year's Eve, which is also going to be a four-day weekend, with New Year's Day on a Tuesday, expect Law Enforcement to be increasing DWI Patrols and DUI Checkpoints on both sides of the State Line.

If you plan on celebrating the New Year with an adult beverage, plan ahead for transportation to get you home safely.
