DUI Holiday Crackdown Begins

The Missouri Department of Transportation has launched the 2012 Holiday DWI Enforcement Campaign in partnership with Missouri Coalition for Roadway Safety.

'Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over' and 'Don't Drive if You're Tipsy, Buzzed, or Blitzen' are among the messages that will appear in advertisements in bars and restaurants in Missouri over the coming weeks. The goal of the campaign is to encourage designating a sober driver or calling a taxi to avoid Driving While Impaired or Intoxicated (DWI),

Drunk Driving in Missouri was linked to seventeen deaths and 69 severe injuries in Missouri in December of 2011.

With both Christmas and the New Year Holidays being four-day weekends, Law Enforcement is anticipating an increase of DWI in Missouri and will be increasing DWI enforcement accordingly. This means you can expect more DUI Checkpoints in both Kansas and Missouri, as well as increased Saturation Patrols by highly-trained DUI Officers who are looking for any reason that would give them probable cause to pull you over and start a DUI Investigation.

If you plan on partaking in some Holiday libations this season, plan ahead. Plug a cab company's number into your cell. Coming to the Power & Light District from the suburbs? Consider renting a hotel room. If public transportaion is an option, use it. Impaired or not, once you get behind the wheel, several factors are out of your control, i.e. you may become involved in an accident that is not your fault or have mechanical problems, you may be stoppped at a DUI Checkpoint, you may have some light not functioning that would give Law Enforcement probable cause to stop your vehicle. Once you are stopped and the Officer believes you have consumed alcohol, there is little chance that you will be let go without further investigation, which usually involves a trip to the Police Station.
