DUI Patrol Announced for KU KSU Game

The matchup between the University of Kansas and Kansas State University this weekend is expected to bring extra traffic to the Turnpike this Saturday , October 22nd, and will bring a horde of fans to Lawrence. The annual Sunflower Showdown between the KU Jayhawks and the KSU Wildcats will bring fans for both teams from all over the State, including the Kansas City Metro Area. It will also bring in additional officers looking to make arrests for DUI.

Law Enforcement is requesting that westbound I-70 traffic traveling to the game exit at the West Lawrence exit 202, due to construction of a bridge off the East Lawrence exit 204.

Along with the rivalry, tailgating, and celebration that accompanies this annual tradition, the game will bring extra troopers to assist, as well. Troopers will help with traffic control, and will then conduct a post-game DUI saturation patrol.

Following the game, the Kansas Highway Patrol will be conducting a RAVE (Rolling Aggressive Violation Enforcement) DUI saturation patrol in Lawrence in an effort to arrest drivers who may appear to be impaired. A 'RAVE' is a DUI saturation patrol that happens when troopers converge on a specific area with a primary focus on the detection and arrest of drivers suspected of DUI. If you are headed to Lawrence this weekend expect delays, especially on I-70. If you plan on celebrating before, during or after the game, make sure to designate a driver. If you find yourself charged with a DUI in Lawrence, Douglas County, or the Kansas City Metro Area, contact our office for a free, no-obligation consultation, or submit a Free Case Evaluation Form on our website.
