Westport DUI Checkpoint Nets More Than 40 DUI Arrests

Posted By Defense DUI Attorney Charles Green || 19-Mar-2011

Kansas City Missouri Police announced that more than forty people were cited for DUI during a St. Patrick's Day DUI Checkpoint that ran between 10 p.m. and 4 a.m. on March 17th. The DUI Checkpoint stopped more than eight hundred vehicles at 39th Street and Southwest Trafficway. Additional charges were issued for Possession of Marijuana, Driving While Revoked / Suspended, and other traffic offenses. A similar DUI Checkpoint on St. Patrick's Day last year accounted for more than thirty DUI Arrests. The Checkpoint was conducted jointly by the Missouri Highway Patrol, Jackson County Sheriff's Office, and the Kansas City, Missouri Police Department. Another DUI Checkpoint is scheduled for this weekend, as are additional checkpoints on either side of the State Line.
DUI Checkpoints are often cited by proponents as a highly visible tool for Law Enforcement that acts as a deterrent towards Drinking and Driving, however an argument could be made that this particular DUI Checkpoint, exactly a year later and at the same location (Westport) failed to deter any significant number of people from Drinking and Driving in the Westport area, as even more were arrested this year. However with the unveiling of this month of a new DUI Enforcement Mobile Command Center you can bet DUI Checkpoints are here to stay for the foreseeable future, on both sides of the State Line.
If you or a loved one has been stopped at a DUI Checkpoint time is critical; contact a DUI Defense Lawyer today for a Free Phone Consultation or submit a  Free Case Evaluation Form Online.
