DUI and Traffic Enforcement Increasing Ahead of Labor Day Weekend

Posted By DUI Attorney Charles Green || 22-Aug-2017

Many Kansas City Area residents will be headed out of town next week for the Labor Day Weekend Holiday celebrating the 'official' end of summer. Whether on the road or on the lake, take care while celebrating this weekend.

The Missouri Highway Patrol reports that from 2004 to 2012, 112 people died in accidents on Missouri roads and highways, and more than 2400 were injured on Missouri highways over the Labor Day Holiday weekend.

Kansas City Missouri Police will be working with the Jackson County Sheriff's Office and the Missouri Highway Patrol to conduct DUI Checkpoints, saturation patrols, and arresting those drivers suspected of DUI, or Driving While Suspended / Revoked.

Kansas City, Mission and Overland Park, Kansas will also emphasize saturation patrols, or 'wolfpacks' that weekend. Overland Park and Mission will also be conducting DUI checkpoints and charging those suspected of DUI / DWI.

In addition to traditional DUI enforcement on the roads, expect additional emphasis on water safety and an increase in Boating While Intoxicated (BWI or BUI) charges. The legal limit in both Kansas and Missouri is .08, the same as on the roads. While a BWI charge may not affect your Drivers License, it is still a misdemeanor criminal charge (First Offense) and carries serious potential consequences.

Take care this weekend, and if you find yourself in the unfortunate position of being charged with DWI, DUI, BWI or any criminal charge in Missouri or Kansas, please do not hesitate to contact our office for a free initial consultation at 913.383.3311 or 816.361.0964.
