A brand-new, $20 million project will be completed and ready for public
service this summer; The Leawood Justice Center will be a state of the
art, 75,000 square-foot facility, located at 119th Street and Tomahawk
Parkway in Leawood, Kansas. The Justice Center will house the Leawood
Police Department, Leawood's Legal Department and Internet Technology
Department. The new complex will also be home to Leawood Municipal Court.
Leawood Municipal Court handles Traffic and Criminal charges , as well
as other city ordinance violations. Included are:
Driving Under the Influence of Alcohol / Drugs (DUI), Driving While Suspended/ Revoked (DWS/ DWR) , Sex Crimes (Solicitation)
,Speeding tickets and other Traffic infractions,
Misdemeanor Drug Charges, (Possession of Marijuana / Possession of Paraphernalia) and other charges
including Stealing (Shoplifting), and assault charges are prosecuted in
Leawood Municipal Court by the Municipal Prosecutor. Cases are adjudicated
by a Municipal Court Judge. In Kansas there is no right to a jury trial
at the municipal court level. All trials are in front of a Judge.
