Kansas To Focus on DUI Enforcement During Thanksgiving

Posted By DUI Attorney Charles Green || 20-Nov-2012

It's that time of year again; Local Law Enforcement will be working in conjunction with the Kansas Highway Patrol during the 'Kansas Thanksgiving Traffic Enforcement Campaign'. The focus will be on conducting arrests for DUI and 'Driving While Suspended', and other traffic infractions. This means more officers on Kansas roads, more 'Wolfpacks' and DUI checkpoints over the Thanksgiving Holiday. Expect DUI Enforcement in Kansas City Missouri to be increased as well.

Statistically, the four-day Thanksgiving weekend produces more alcohol-related crashes than any other holiday. According to the Kansas Department of Transportation those involved in an alcohol-related or drug-related crash ( DUI Drugs ) ,are more than twice as likely to be severely injured or killed. Law Enforcement will be emphasizing seatbelt usage; not wearing a seatbelt is a traffic infraction and constitutes probable cause for an officer to stop you and conduct a DUI Investigation. Also, having a burnt-out license plate bulb justifies a stop and subsequent DUI Investigation (See my earlier post on 'How to Avoid Getting a DUI' ).

Every week almost 350 drivers are charged with DUI in Kansas. A DUI conviction can result in a jail sentence, revocation or suspension of Driving Privileges, insurance increases, and stiff fines, among other penalties.
